The Laine's Planes Desk Top Organizer

I have toyed with the idea of designing and building my own tool caddy, but all that cutting and drilling of the holes was a bit daunting!

I came across Laine's Planes and was delighted to see the "Desk Top Organizer" and ordered one straight away. It duly arrived a few days later, and the kit consisted of the few parts shown below

I am not sure where to place the decal and the small elliptical piece is a mystery! However the fit of the parts was first class and in a few minutes the unit was together and a few drops of C.A. adhesive made everything permanent.

Good and not-so-good points

Reviews

The majority of reviews were very positive. There were a few complaints about difficulty in feeding tools through 2 plates, but I have had no problem at all in doing this. Use a slightly larger sized hole and no probs! 

There were a few complaints about the price and how easy it would be to make your own. I much prefer to spend my time building RC airplanes! I think the price is very reasonable.

Final thoughts

I have been using this RC tool organizer for a few weeks now and I find it makes a first class edition to my workbench.

I would like to say something about Laine's after sales service. When my unit arrived I noted that the material was thicker than the laser cut slots-thus the unit would not fit together.

A few minutes sanding down the "male" parts of the tenons solved that problem!

I did inform Laine of this situation and he immediately apologized and said he would send a replacement unit, at no cost to me. Even though I said this was not necessary, he insisted and shipped me a new unit, to Canada, at no cost!

This is first class service and I am sure you will receive the same attention, if it is required.

The Laine's Planes Desk Top Organizer XL

Some modifications to the basic unit is the addition of storage areas and the possibility of adding two drawers. You will also notice that the extra height means that longer tools can be stored, without the tips touching the work surface. 

This unit is available with or without the drawers.
