The Electric Ducted Fan.
The unit shown here is manufactured by RC Lander ( It is used in the Hunter
shown above) and is available from
NITROPLANES.com This unit is 68 mm (2.67inches) diameter and incorporates a 5 bladed fan. RPM can be as high as 47,000 with a maximum thrust of 1.6 kg(3.52lb) The material used in the construction is primarily aluminum alloy These numbers are typical of what today's technology can offer and many jets and ducted fan units are available.
. The RC Lander Hawker Hunter. We can use the Hunter as an example of a modern jet model. This hunter has a wing span of 41.3" and the total finished weight should be no more than 39oz. Did you notice that the Hunter is a 6-channel,scale model, complete with flaps and retractable landing gear! Even at its maximum weight the thrust to weight ratio is greater than 1, which guarantees a spirited performance.
The use of Li-Po batteries and brushless motors, along with perfected ducted fan technology, has made this type of model practical and not that expensive.
BVM Jets and Electric Power.Bob Violett Models has a very large range of all types of jets. These are all large models, usually constructed of fiberglass and incorporate the latest technologies. Their Electric Viofan is 3.5 inch exhaust diameter and can produce up to 14 lbs of thrust! Using the latest Li- Po batteries ensures maximum performance and reliability. Please click here to visit BVM Jets, for further information. I believe it is fair to say that BVM jets represent the ultimate in jet models. Their aircraft can fly at speeds approaching 200 MPH and are not for the faint of heart! Return from this page-EDF Jets to RC Jets Return to RC Airplanes Simplified
