Hangar 9: DVT Digital Voltmeter/Tachometer

by Bob Bishop
(RC Airplanes Simplified.com)

This unit combines an indispensable digital volt meter (DVT) with a digital tachometer.
I mentioned "indispensable" because how can you check your batteries before the first flight of the day or. more importantly, before the last flight, without such a device?
The DVT can check, under load, 4 or 5 cell receiver packs and it can also check 9.6V transmitter packs, also under load.
The electrical load that is applied, simulates conditions similar to actual working conditions, thus ensuring the readings you see are truly safe.
The DVT imparts a load of 240mA on a 4-cell pack and 300mA on a 5-cell. RC transmitter packs will see a load of 400mA.
Either Futaba or JR transmitters can be tested, by way of the polarity switch.
The tachometer can be switched for 2,3 or 4 bladed props. The maximum RPM, that can be seen is 29,000 and increments are 10 RPM.
The unit automatically switches off, after 2 minutes of inactivity, thus conserving energy of the 9V dry cell battery.
A low battery indicator shows when the 9V battery needs replacing.

Hangar 9: Micro Digital Tachometer

by Bob Bishop
(RC Airplanes Simplified.com)

This is a new tachometer from Hangar 9 that features a 4 digit display and can read up to 32,000RPM.
It is very easy to switch the unit, to suit 2,3 or 4 bladed RC airplane propellers.
Power is from a long lasting 3V 220mAh lithium battery. If you leave the unit switched on, it will automatically switch itself off, after a preset time.
A low battery icon indicates when the battery requires to be replaced.
Small enough to fit in your pocket, or slip into the field box.
Use this tachometer to measure the difference a new propeller, fuel or glow plug can make and use it to tune your engine for optimum RPM. Don't fly with a too lean or too rich engine setting!
Indispensable for the glow engine flyer and can also be used for electric RC planes.
